Summer is considered the time in between Memorial Day in June and Labor Day in September. There are several reasons why the number of arrests would go up in summer. The most obvious being the there are more people out at events drinking socially.

More partying

During the summer months people are out drinking with friends and family enjoying the season. Drinking by pools and lakes, drinking while grilling at barbecues, or drinking at happy hours. Summer is a time for people to relax and enjoy the sun. It’s also hot so people may become intoxicated quicker without realizing it.

More Enforcement

Police know that there is more drinking during certain times over the summer like Labor Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July. In large cities police set up “No Refusal” weekends for these holidays. This means they can instantly get a warrant to require you to use a breathalyzer or give blood for testing.

More People On The Road

During the summer months people tend to do more traveling than normal. People are less likely to stay home and therefore are more likely to get into an accident. People also stay up later and drive home later during peak times for drunk driving.

To avoid being part of this trap ensure that you have a safe ride home. If you know you will be drinking have someone be the designated driver, call a taxi, order a ride share or sleep it off. The chance of getting arrested or injuring someone or yourself are never worth it.
