Halloween is a holiday that’s naturally full of all sorts of fun, imagination, and creativity for people of all ages. However, this famous intersection of fun and mischief has also led to all sorts of lesser-known laws you may not have been aware of.

Here are three of the strangest laws involving Halloween:

Bellville, Missouri

If a child is in or past the eighth grade, it is against the law for them to ask for candy on Halloween. According to the law there, candy is meant for younger children only for the holiday.

Rehoboth, Delaware

This town has a law on the books stating that Halloween cannot be celebrated on the 31st of October if it falls on a Sunday. Instead, trick-or-treating must take place the day before between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Anyone found to be in violation of this law runs the risk of being hit with a $150 fine.

Hollywood, California

Silly string is not permitted on Halloween night. This does technically make sense, as it can be used to create a lot of mess as pranks and be an ordeal to clean up, but it’s still fun to consider the police crackdown on plastic in aerosol form.
