DWI Crash Texas 2022. A three-time DWI offender has had his bond increased to over $1 million following the death of a six-year-old child in southwest Houston.

52-year-old Pedro Alberto Hernandez was not only hit with this third driving while intoxicated charge, but he also has officially been charged with murder. Hernandez’s bond was originally set at a combined amount of $600,000; however, this amount was increased to a combined amount of $950,000, with $850,000 of that involving the murder charge and $100,000 for the DWI charge.

What Caused This DWI Crash Texas?

The incident was initially reported on October 1 at approximately 6:00 PM in the 9700 block of Leawood Boulevard near Elmcroft. This incident saw Hernandez being accused of hitting a six-year-old child with his vehicle outside of a laundromat located on Leawood. Court documents state that the child was walking across the street with his grandfather at the time he was struck by Hernandez’s vehicle. The grandfather is then said to have yelled at Hernandez, who then stopped his vehicle before backing up and again running over the child. After the grandfather yelled at Hernandez for a second time, according to court documents, Hernandez drove his vehicle forward and ran over the child a third time.

According to the grandfather, Hernandez smirked at him before attempting to drive away, as officials state that the grandfather forced Hernandez out of his vehicle and pinned him against the hood until law enforcement arrived.

Hernandez then admitted to drinking a total of four 16-ounce beers while he was sitting inside his car at work prior to driving to the laundromat, where he says he was planning to meet someone who owed him money. According to authorities, Hernandez said he did not see anyone in the parking lot when the child was struck by him.

Court documents further show that Hernandez spent a total of 30 days in jail back in 2015 as the result of a DWI, and just a year later, he was convicted of the same charge in Freestone County. In 2020, Hernandez received his third DWI charge in Fort Bend County, and he continues to serve a total of five years probation for this conviction.
