DWI Assault Austin Texas – A 34-year-old Austin resident was recently arrested after crashing into a police vehicle before then driving away from the scene. The arrest occurred when the individual returned to the scene of the incident.

The Austin Police Department states that a police officer had been using his vehicle to block an I-35 entrance ramp as the result of a traffic fatality at approximately 2:16 AM on November 21 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Thomas Hopes.

After the collision occurred, Hopes reversed his vehicle and left the scene without making any attempt to exchange insurance information.

The officer was able to provide the license plate number of Hopes’s vehicle and also noted that it was a 2013 black Mercedes Benz that had struck him traveling southbound on the I-35 service road. Other officers then approached Hopes’s vehicle and ordered him to pull over.

Hopes claimed that he was driving back home from The Domain, as well as telling police that he had apparently been in a collision earlier in the evening and that he had been the only driver of his vehicle that evening.
