Back in 2016, there were a total of 17,434 auto accidents in the state of Texas, all of which involved drunk driving. Throughout the state, however, there were some areas that were hit much harder than others.

Here are the top three cities in Texas that had the most fatal DUIs:

Midland (5.70 DUI deaths per 100,000 residents)

This is considered to be perhaps the most dangerous cities in Texas in terms of DUIs. There were a total of 19 deaths involving drivers whose blood alcohol content was above the legal limit from 2014 to 2016. Even though part of Midland is located in Martin County, which has expressly prohibited the sale of alcohol, there continues to be a high rate of deaths from DUI-related accidents.

Odessa (5.34 DUI deaths per 100,000 residents)

The DUI fatality rate for this city is approximately twice the average for other large-sized cities throughout the state. Despite the fact that Odessa has a relatively small population, they continue to remain in the top dozen cities in Texas for total number of fatalities related to DUIs, and this is something that occurs on a regular basis.

Baytown (5.11 DUI deaths per 100,000 residents)

In all of the cities that are located in the Houston-Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area, Baytown has been shown to have the highest rate in DUI fatalities. One factor that could likely contribute to this is the fact that Baytown is bordered by Interstate 10 on the north. This has been ranked as one of the five most dangerous roads in all of the United States.
