With 2019 about to end and 2020 about to be rung in, it’s important to take a look at buildings in the area of downtown Austin that helped to transform the landscape of the city throughout the past decade, as well as contribute to the overall transformation itself.

Here are three buildings that didn’t exist in downtown Austin back in 2010.

SXSW Center

SXSW Center, which opened earlier this year as the new headquarters for the SXSW Festival. This is a 12-story office tower that has been completely renovated and also represents a recent revitalization of the area around the state Capitol. It also represents the overall role that the SXSW Festival has played to the general boom of the city of Austin itself.

Robert B. Rowling Hall

Robert B. Rowling Hall, which is the new graduate business facility housed on the campus of the University of Texas and also connects to the AT&T Conference Center and Hotel. Measuring a total of 497,500 square feet, it is considered to be one of the major fixtures on the growing row of buildings along the western portion of East Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Northshore

Northshore, which opened back in 2016 and is more of a mixed-use building. Considered the eighth-tallest building in the city of Austin and the tallest apartment building in the city as well, it houses a total of 439 apartment units, representing the revived interest in downtown residential rentals throughout the past ten years.
